ZSJ : The Dark Knight ( Part 1 )

Face the darkness in the heart

I don’t know why the recommendation of “Batman: The Dark Knight” has been appearing on the TV homepage these few days. So for the past two days, I watched this film over and over again.
When I watched the first time, I was practicing the piano while watching so I missed a lot of details.
The second time, I was immersed in the intense superhero action scenes.
The third time, I began to understand why this film can become a classic in the hearts of the viewers.
It’s not merely a superhero action movie, it’s also an exploration of the depths of the human heart. Of course, the success of a film requires the joint effort of the director, screenwriter, cameraman and actors.

“Batman” actor Christian Bale lost 57 pounds ( about 26kg ) for a previous film “The Mechanic” and gained 72 pounds ( about 33kg ) for “Batman”.

** Sanjian, you can admire his method acting, but please don’t follow his extreme example – this is really terrible for the body 😰

The other protagonist – The Joker, played by actor Heath Ledger, died by suicide** at the age of 28.

There is a version which suggested that “Due to Heath Ledger entering too deep into his roles with each performance, it took him a long time to recover after each role. When he participated in “Batman: The Dark Knight”, he studied the Joker’s psyche by locking himself in a hotel room for long periods of time, repeated practice of licking his lips, stroking his hair, speaking tone, etc, finally creating an unsurpassable Joker ! But because he was too deep into the role, Heath Ledger couldn’t bear the stress that came after that performance, ended up dying from an overdose. ”

Its so regrettable!

** officially Heath Ledger passed away due to accidental overdose of prescription medication

A teacher once said that an actor is the most unusual profession in the world, he has to use his emotions, limbs, perhaps even hair to serve his role. This is also the reason why some excellent actors who do method acting find great difficulty to get out of their roles, and may even have certain psychological problems arising from this.

I think, this maybe why some actors will switch careers to become directors at a certain point of time. Being involved in a role is not only a test on the physical strength, but more about being immersed in the fate of the character. Sometimes it is really difficult to get rid of that kind of painful emotions. Since the role does not only exist in the imagination, the actor must be able to convey and move the audience through the performance. A good performance is one that can touch the audience.

This excellent actor’s performance did not lose out to Batman’s superhero halo. In honor of him, let’s watch the whole movie from the Joker’s point of view.
If you watch this movie from this angle, you will find that this is a story of a clown growing up, from a fledgling new star of crime to the “King of Crime” in Gotham City.

Firstly, he infiltrated the inner circle of the mobs to create distrust, let them fall apart, thus developing his own power. He killed a fake Batman, sent out a warning to people and spread a message that as long as the real Batman didn’t reveal his identity in a day, someone would die for him every day.

Up till this part, I even suspect that the Joker might have studied psychology. To want to destroy a person, especially the incarnation of justice like Batman, killing him will not achieve the purpose of the Joker. Batman will still live on in the hearts of the people forever. Only by pulling Batman into the abyss of sin and let him live on bearing the weight of crime is Joker’s real purpose. He tried to provoke Batman repeatedly, waiting and relishing the moment he would cross the moral line and kill him. He made good people target him out of fear – just like how every cop’s death is caused by Batman’s unwillingness to reveal himself.

In this way, the Joker pulled Batman into the whirlpool of justice – everyone can put on the mask of “justice” and accuse him of not “coming forward”. Are you really fighting for justice ? If you are fighting for justice , you must come forward and take off your mask now.

The Joker is very intelligent, he knows that in order to beat his opponent, he has to get to understand him. Only by knowing who he is, can he hit his weakness with precision. At the charity dinner, the Joker discovers Batman’s weakness, although he still doesn’t know who Batman is.

Is the Joker a madman? Obviously, he is.

But his mind is unusually clear, it is not the same “crazy” as we understand. His thinking is clear, his plans are meticulous and the things he did seemed logical. I have read a book [Genius on the left, Lunatic on the right]. The author recorded the stories of some mental patients in the form of interviews. The author found that the patients have very strong logic, and they will construct an inner world that belonged to them.

The Joker is one such existence. His world view is very extensive, everyone became his pawns, receiving his moral judgment.

Batman asked him, “…why do you want to kill me?”

The Joker laughed, “I don’t want to kill you! What would I do without you?”

It would seem that in his heart, he is very clear that evil cannot be manifested without justice, just as justice cannot be manifested without evil. They are individuals who must exist in the world, “You complete me.

Whether facing Batman, Commissioner, or Harvey, the Joker is always strongly sharing his world view and values, which not only convinces himself in his mind, but can also brainwash those who are not firm in their stance.

“Good evening, **Commissioner.” The Joker greeted the police officer warmly as if he saw his family.
“Harvey Dent never made it home,” Gordon said.
“Of course not.”
“What have you done with him?”
“Me? I was right here, and your subordinate sent him back. Huh? Your people?” In this exchange, the Joker had maintained the upper hand. He not only mocked the relationship between the Commissioner and his subordinates, but also destroyed the trust between them.

“Does it depress you, Commissioner… to know just how alone you really are?” The Joker attempted to release the sensitive suspicions, lonely and fearful dark feelings in people’s hearts.

” Does it make you feel responsible for Harvey Dent’s death? ” He used justice to restrain the Commissioner, just as he attributed every death in the city to be related to Batman.

When the detective asked, “Where is he?”, Joker asked back, “What’s the time?” Throwing the question back—

“Depending on the time, he may be in one spot or several.”

(Isn’t such a clever answer much more creepy than simply saying “at some point he’ll be blown to smithereens”?

In the first half of the film, the Joker’s life experience and childhood memories were depicted, the origins of the smiley scar on his face, and the phrase “why so serious?” seared such a deep brand on his heart.

We see that Joker is always licking the corners of his mouth with his tongue in the film. I thought that when his father gave him those scars, that it would itch whenever the wounds were healing, so he developed the habit of licking the corners of his mouth.

This is my understanding of the Joker’s behavior and action. We can see that the actor’s interpretation of the character is very detailed and every action is created with justifiable imagination. When we are watching him do this action it doesn’t feel out of place at all and it is highly infectious.

Austrian psychiatrist Adler said, “Some people use childhood to heal their whole life, and some people use their whole life to heal their childhood.”

Sharing a little story from daily life.

When I went back north some time ago, I saw that the leaves of the Birds of Paradise in the room have all withered, the stems and leaves were about to break, so I quickly straightened it up and replenished water. Growing this plant seems to be rather simple, as long as there is water and sunlight, it can grow well. I also put the humidifier below the leaves and let it enjoy the Hawaiian “sea breeze”.

Speaking of humidifiers I am so angry! Last night I was so frustrated using the newly arrived footbath and humidifier. While operating the humidifier, it started to leak, and while adding water to the foot soaking bucket, the water overflowed. I hurriedly turned off the faucet, took a basin to scoop out the excess water—the kitchen and living room was a watery mess…

The next day, I added water to the humidifier, but it still leaked. My mood is not very stable these few days, so I really felt like kicking it. I was going to lift it up and drop it, eh? As soon as it was lifted, it started working inexplicably…

So when you are losing your temper, you need just a little bit of patience. Maybe this little bit of patience will save the “life” of this humidifier.
