Nezha – Birth of the Demon Child

其实很早就想写这部片子的影评了,但无奈一直没找到合适的切入点。在我看来这部国产动画片过于的完美,完美到以任何一个视角去看都是一种不错的体验。后来在我反反复复观看电影之后,我找到了一个合适的词作为整部电影的切入点——反差。
整部电影观看下来你们会发现:除了哪吒的父母是大家传统想象中的模样,其它角色都与传统形象有巨大的反差,这打破了我们一贯的印象。那我就从反差的视角出发,尝试阐述为何这部电影会取得如此成功并深入人心的。

I had actually wanted to write a review for this movie for a long while now, but unfortunately I could not find a suitable point of discussion. In my opinion, this domestic animated film is too perfect, so perfect that it is a good experience to watch from any perspective. After watching the movie over and over again, I found a suitable word as the talking point for the whole movie – contrast.

After watching the entire movie, you will discover: Except for Nezha’s parents who are close to the expected traditional design, the other characters’ designs have departed far from the conventional image, breaking our expectations. And so I will start from the perspective of contrast and try to explain why this film is so successful and manage to touch the hearts of the audience.

首先出现的两个主要角色——太乙真人和申公豹。一个操着川普的不靠谱神仙接不接地气?一个结结巴巴的反派好不好笑?太乙真人就打破了我们内心有关神仙高大上的形象——神仙不再是英俊潇洒、正义凛然,光芒四射,而是肥头大耳、吹牛、喝酒,做事不着调,正是因为这样的毛病才阴差阳错的把事儿办砸了,让故事以一个注定悲剧的走向为起始。

The first two main characters to appear are – Taiyi Zhenren and Shen Gongbao. Isn’t a flaky deity who speaks with a Sichuan Mandarin accent very down to earth? Isn’t a stuttering villain comical? Taiyi Zhenren has shattered our expectations where the image of immortals are tall and lofty – immortals are no longer handsome, majestically righteous, dazzling and radiant, but plump, boastful, drunk and not being reliable in matters. It is precisely because of this shortcoming, due to his huge screw-up after the turn of events, the story thus begins as a doomed tragedy.

那申公豹呢?一个冷酷无情,法力高强的反派,却是一个连一句话都说不利索的神仙。也正因为他的结巴给我们带来了很多笑点,并制造了关键误会让故事得以顺其自然。

What about Shen Gongbao? A ruthless, powerful villain, who is an immortal who can’t speak properly. It is because of his stuttering that he brought us a lot of humorous moments and also created a critical misunderstanding that propelled the story on its course.

我们看过太多的影视作品中会把好人与坏人脸谱化,好人就必须是帅哥美女,三庭五眼,端庄正气。坏人呢?就必须找那种一看就像通缉令上的人来演。如果是这样的一种格式化创作,在人物个性上及戏剧冲突中就会失去许许多多的色彩。通常人在日常的生活中都会戴上“面具”来伪装自己,难道坏人脸上会写着“坏人”两个字吗?这样的剧本创作只会把导演和演员锁死。

所以这篇影评就想告诉大家反差感弥足珍贵。

We have seen too many movies and TV works that will make stereotypes of the good and bad roles, where the good must be handsome or beautiful people, of fixed aesthetically pleasing proportions, dignified with an air of righteousness. What about the bad guys – have to be someone who looks like they belong on a wanted notice. If it is such a formatted creation process, it will greatly diminish the character’s personality and the dramatic conflict. Usually everyone wears “masks” to conceal themselves in their daily life. Are the words “bad guy” written on the faces of the bad guy? Such a script production will only creatively limit the director and the actors.

So this film review wants to tell everyone that this contrasting character setup is extremely hard to come by.

聊完了表象我们再聊聊这两位配角的深层性格。太乙真人和申公豹在法力值上,申公豹明显优势,在刻苦程度上申公豹也远超太乙真人。可为什么元始天尊却把十二金仙最后一个席位留给了太乙真人呢?这就是透过了现象看到了本质。

After talking about the characters’ appearances, let’s go deeper into the personalities of these two supporting characters. In terms of magical powers, Shen Gongbao has an obvious advantage, and it would seem that Shen Gongbao also puts in more hard work compared to Taiyi. But why did Yuanshi Tianzun offer the last seat of the Twelve Golden Immortals to Taiyi Zhenren? This is looking beyond appearances.

太乙真人勇敢善良、勇于承担责任,心怀大爱,最后不惜折损几百年的修为去救下哪吒和敖丙。而申公豹心胸狭隘,他认为人心中的成见好比是一座大山任你怎么搬也搬不动。一个人的修为更重要是体现在内心,你心中的偏见都没有放下,别人如何放下呢?天劫降临时他理所应当、不假思索地逃跑了。这里我不由的想到了职场,如果你是老板你会选择一个忠心耿耿,知错就改善良可爱的员工呢?还是会选择一个聪明过人,心机很重,随时都会跳槽甚至倒打一耙的员工呢?答案可想而知,了解一个人更重要的是内在的品质,不要被表象蒙蔽了哦。

Taiyi Zhenren is brave and kind, has the courage to take responsibility, has love and compassion for all, eventually saving Nezha and Ao Bing at the expense of hundreds of years of cultivation. On the other hand, Shen Gongbao is narrow-minded. He believes that the prejudice in people’s hearts is like an immovable large mountain. It is more important for a person’s cultivation to stem from the inner heart. If you have not let go of the prejudice in your heart, how can others let go? When the Tribulation curse arrived, he ( Shan Gongbao) escaped without hesitation. I can’t help but think of the workplace at this point- If you were the boss, would you choose a loyal and lovable employee who would improve after learning from his mistakes? Or will you choose an employee who is smart and scheming, but will change jobs at any time or may even backstab you? I can imagine your answer. It is more important to understand a person’s intrinsic worth, so don’t be deceived by appearances.

接下来就聊聊两位主角的反差,光是冰与火、红与蓝、冲动与冷静的反差就能赋予人们无限的想象空间。从故事本身来说,情节也是从魔丸与灵珠对调身份展开的。

善良的殷夫人怀胎三年本该生下灵珠转世的哪吒,却被申公豹利用自己师兄爱喝酒的臭毛病盗取灵珠将哪吒变成了魔丸转世。灵珠转世成了龙王之子——敖丙。

Next, let’s talk about the contrast between the two protagonists. Just the contrast between ice and fire, red and blue, impulse and calm can give people room for unlimited imagination. As far as the story itself is concerned, the plot is also developed from the exchange of identities between the Demonic pearl and the Divine pearl.

The kind-hearted Lady Yin was supposed to give birth to Nezha, as the reincarnation of the Divine pearl after three years of pregnancy, but Shen Gongbao took advantage of his senior’s bad habit of drinking in order to steal the Divine pearl and turned Nezha into the reincarnation of the Demonic pearl. The Divine pearl was reincarnated as Ao Bing, the son of the Dragon King.

在这里东海龙宫与传统的形象也是有极大的反差。我们印象里的龙宫富丽堂皇宏伟气派,虾兵蟹将一个个雄赳赳气昂昂……(当然了都是来自于西游记的画面记忆)。按道理敖丙那妥妥的龙太子何等威风,没想啊他却肩负了龙族千年的期盼,宛若枷锁在身。龙宫只是镇压海底妖兽的牢笼,每一条龙都被拴上了沉重的铁链。另一方的反差也不小,哪吒出身于富贵人家却不得离开府中半步,人们对他的偏见从他出身的那一刻就注定了。

Here, there is also a great contrast between the East China Sea Dragon Palace and the traditional image. In our impression, the Dragon Palace should be magnificent and grand, complete with proud spirited troops such as the shrimp soldiers and crab generals… (of course, these are all from the memories from Journey to the West). By rights, Ao Bing as the Dragon Crown Prince should be very imposing, but who knew that he has to shoulder the thousand-year expectations of the Dragon Clan like a great shackle. The Dragon Palace is merely a cage to suppress the monsters and demons under the sea, and every dragon is tied down with heavy chains. The contrast for the other party is not small either. Nezha was born in a prestigious family of great renown, but he was not allowed to leave his home at all. People’s prejudice against him was ordained from the moment he was born.

哪吒的形象也不是我们传统上那种神气激灵,脑门中间一点红的形象。而是扁扁的鼻子,重重的黑眼圈,屋里一片狼藉双手插兜,爱念打油诗,浑小子的形象,而敖丙却是以翩翩公子的形象登场的。

Nezha’s appearance is also not our traditional image of a bright, energetic child with a little red dot in the middle of his forehead. Instead he has a flat nose, heavy dark circles under his eyes, a messy room, likes to stick his hands inside his pockets like a little ruffian, who loves to read limericks, but Ao Bing made his appearance as a handsome young boy.

魔丸与灵珠本是一体混元珠,亦正亦邪阴阳两极。是元始天尊强行将其区分开,并在魔丸上下了天劫咒。所以哪吒和敖丙本是同根生,只是哪吒只有三年的寿命。他们有一个共同点那就是他们同属异类,异于常人的优秀或是邪恶都会被当作异类。

The Demonic pearl and the Divine pearl are originally one single pearl, of both positive and evil extremes. It was Yuanshi Tianzun who forcibly separated them and cast the Heavenly Tribulation Curse on the Demonic pearl. Therefore, Nezha and Ao Bing were born from the same root, but Nezha only had a lifespan of three years. One thing they have in common is that they belong to the same kind of outcasts, because no matter good or evil, as long as they are different from ordinary people, they will be regarded as abnormal.

两个从小被当作异类的孩子分开长大了,当他们相遇时才认识到世间有如此同频共振的事物。一个是人,一个是妖,却成为了彼此唯一的朋友——一个肩负龙族千年的使命,一个却只有三年的性命;一个温文尔雅、知书达理有恩必报,一个调皮捣蛋冥顽不灵;一个是灵珠却要埋葬整个钱塘关,一个是魔丸却喊出“我命由我不由天”拯救了所有百姓。敖丙背道而驰化身为龙,哪吒克服心魔破茧成蝶。就在哪吒的气力要消失殆尽时,敖丙却用万龙甲拖住了时间,他们战胜了自我,拯救了彼此。表象与本质在影片中肆意搏斗,让人们在思考的同时直呼过瘾。天生的“邪恶”指引着天生的“正义”找到了正道,是不是和我们记忆中哪吒把龙太子抽筋剥皮的故事大相径庭呢?

Two children who were treated as being different from childhood, grew up separately and only when they met did they realize that there could be such a resonance in the world. One a human, the other a demon, but they became the only friend of each another – one shoulders the Dragons’ thousand-year mission, while the other has only three years to live; One is cultured and elegant, knowledgeable and will repay kindness, the other is mischievous and obstinate. One is the Divine pearl but wanted to bury the entire Qiantang Pass, while the other is the Demonic pearl but shouted “My life is up to me” and saved everyone. Ao Bing ran counter to his own nature and turned into a dragon, Nezha overcame his inner demon and broke out of his cocoon to find his new self. Just when Nezha’s strength was about to be completely exhausted, Ao Bing used his DragonScale armor to buy them time. They overcame themselves and saved each other. Appearances and inner nature wrestle unbridled in the film, engaging the audience’s thinking while giving them a good time. Inborn “evil” leading the inborn “righteous” to the right path, isn’t it poles apart from the story in our memory where Nezha killed and skinned the Dragon Prince?

本片当中还有两个让我印象极其深刻的角色,一个是片头和片尾分别出场的白发老者。这部电影中的老者可不是智者,而是打着为民请愿、为民除害的旗号,试图让李靖夫妇大义灭亲的坏人。最有意思的是导演把它设计成了瞎子,靠着所谓的“听闻”装作站在大众的立场上,站在了道德的制高点对着木头就说出了一番大义凛然的话;还有就是那位一直发出女生尖叫的“壮汉”,我认为人们对于哪吒的恐惧与偏见,有很大程度上是由于受到那声尖叫的引导——“哪吒来了!”哪吒真有那么可怕和吓人吗?真有那么十恶不赦吗?不过是某些人阴阳怪气的人营造出来自欺欺人的气氛罢了。

There are also two characters in this film that left a deep impression on me, one is the white-haired old man who appeared at the beginning and the end respectively. The elderly old man in this movie is not a wise man, but a bad person who tries to force Li Jing and his wife to place righteousness before family and kill their own son, under the banner of petitioning and eliminating evil for the people. The most interesting thing is that the director designed the character to be a blind man, relying on “hearing” to pretend to take the standpoint of the public, standing on the moral high ground and say alot of righteous words to a piece of wood; the other is the “macho man” who screams like a girl, I think people’s terror and prejudice against Nezha is largely due to the guidance of that scream – “Nezha is here!” Is Nezha really that terrible and frightening? Was he really that heinous? It’s just that some eccentric cynical people who created a deceptive atmosphere.

殷夫人紧紧抱住刚出生的哪吒任由自己的孩儿啃咬自己,陪着被当作异类的儿子踢毽子哪怕自己遍体鳞伤……让我深受感动。李靖最后用换命符想替孩子遭受劫难更是让我在电影院流下了泪水。母爱似水,父爱如山都在影片里完美呈现。我去查了封神演义中哪吒与龙王三太子的传统故事才发现,竟然反差最大的其实是父母,也就是李靖夫妇。

Lady Yin hugged the newborn Nezha tightly and let her child gnaw on her, played Jianzi with her son who was treated as a different breed, even though she got bruised all over… I was deeply moved. When Li Jing used the life-interchanging talisman to endure the Lightning Tribulation for his child, made me shed tears in the cinema. The mother’s love is like water, and the father’s love is like a mountain, are perfectly presented in the film. I went to check out the legend of Nezha and the Third prince of the Dragon King in Investiture of the Gods, and found that the actually the greatest contrast is actually the parents, namely Li Jing and his wife.

传统故事中的李靖从一开始就想杀掉哪吒,后来又逼哪吒自杀、毁掉他的祠堂,哪吒回家找父亲寻仇……实际上是典型的“俄狄浦斯弑父”情节的体现。传统的哪吒母亲也是懦弱柔顺,事事屈服于丈夫,并没有护子的英勇。

In the legendary tale, Li Jing wanted to kill Nezha from the beginning, later forced Nezha to commit suicide and destroyed his ancestral hall. Nezha went home to seek revenge on his father… In fact, it was a classic plot of “Oedipus killing his father”. ” Nezha’s mother in the legend is also weak and submissive, yielding to her husband in everything, and did not possess the courage to protect her children.

传统故事的描写大家可以自行去阅读,抽筋剥皮、挫骨扬灰这样的场面令人心碎,我不想再去一 一回顾。在这里我只想感谢导演塑造了一对“完美”的父母,将“可怜天下父母心”的信念通过电影传承下去。百善孝为先,中国人最不应该忘记的是父母的恩情。这部《哪吒之魔童降世》为中国现代动画电影树立一面旗帜,立下了一个标杆,让世界看见中国故事,进而向世人证明中国动画不输国外任何动画电影。五千年的文化传承,多少中国故事值得我们去发扬探索。相信这样一部优秀的电影也会激励着所有的电影人。

You can read the tales of the legends by yourself. The scenes of skinning, shattering bones and scattering ashes are heartbreaking, so I don’t want to review them one by one. Here, I just want to thank the director for creating a pair of “perfect” parents and through the movie, propagate the belief of “devotion of all parents”. Filial piety comes first among all virtues, and the last thing Chinese should forget is the loving kindness of their parents. This “Nezha: Birth of the Demon Child” has set a flag for modern Chinese animation films, set a benchmark, let the world see Chinese stories and proved to the world that Chinese animation is not inferior to any foreign animation films. Five thousand years of cultural heritage, how many Chinese stories are worth exploring and developing. I believe that such an excellent film will inspire all filmmakers.
